If you are reading this blog, there is a good chance that you believe that pets aren’t just animals or companions, but that they are full fledged family members.
We certainly do, and polling suggests that a strong majority of Canadians agree with us.
This belief animates our core mission. It’s simple: keep families together, no matter what. And whenever we have success stories, we want to share them.
Meet Bella, the adorable pup you see in the photo above, who we were recently able to help thanks to your support.
Nobody knows when they might find themselves facing a crisis outside of their control. It might be medical, financial, substance related or involve fleeing violence.
The prospect of having to give up a pet because of a crisis is heartbreaking. Even worse, it might delay someone from seeking the help they need out of fear of losing a lifelong companion.
It’s a problem our No Pet Left Behind program is designed to address, by providing loving and stable temporary foster care for pets whose people are working through a crisis.

Unfortunately, due to limited resources we are only able to offer foster placements in the Lower Mainland, but when we heard about Bella we knew we needed to help.
Bella’s pet parent, who lives on Vancouver Island recently made the brave and life-changing decision to enter a treatment program.
They had arranged for Bella to stay with a friend, but unexpected veterinary costs cropped up and quickly became overwhelming.
That’s where your support came in. We were able to tap into our Emergency Fund, drawn from generous contributions to our Donor Advised Fund, along with other friends, to cover Bella’s urgent medical care.
This support will help ensure Bella will stay safe and healthy while she’s with her foster family, and most importantly, that her pet parent can focus on their healing journey.
We also wanted to tell you about Zoe, an adorable pup who you’ve helped to keep with her family.
Zoe and her mom have been enrolled in our Better Together program since 2021. This program gets at the core of what we do.
By partnering with social service agencies and veterinarians, we’re able to ensure animals like Zoe get access to subsidized veterinary care and help avoid forcing families to make impossible choices like giving up their pets due to financial pressures.
Thanks to your help, Zoe has received the care she needs as health challenges have cropped up, including a need for specialized food to support her kidneys and to keep her happy and healthy.
This kind of ongoing care helps prevent more serious health problems down the road, and is only possible because of donors like you.
On behalf of all the pet families we serve, including Bella’s and Zoe’s, thank you for all you do!
