Would you look at that face? That’s the soulful stare of a best friend who would do anything for you. And it’s a heartbreaking image for a pet parent afraid they might not be able to do the same in return.
Meet Smokie. Recently, things weren’t going so well for Smokie and his mom. Veterinarians had discovered a lump on his spleen. Smokie’s mom was overwhelmed and terrified, she wasn’t sure how she’d be able to afford the care he needed.
That’s when your help came into play. We connected with Smokie’s mom and were able to enroll them in our Better Together program. It’s one of our core initiatives, and brings together clients, participating veterinarians and social services to provide subsidized care for pets, making sure they’re happy and pain free, and most importantly, able to remain with their families.
Thanks to the support of our incredible community of donors and our partners at Harbour Veterinary Clinic, Smokie is now getting the treatment he deserves. That includes ongoing subsidized veterinary care, along with a solid plan for his health going forward.
It’s a big win for Smokie and his mom, and from them and from all of us at Paws for Hope we say thank you. Whether you’ve donated recently or simply cheered us on, you’re a part of making wins like this happen.
But for every family who we’re able to connect with, we know there are countless others facing the mounting cost of living and the challenges of veterinary care. The need is always growing — can you help us support more families like Smokie’s?
